Paces includes a suite of drawing tools located above your map view. These tools let you visually plan and analyze your projects directly within the platform — no need for external software.
With the drawing tools, you can:
Sketch simple site layouts to outline proposed project areas
Measure distances between points for transmission, access roads, or boundaries
Calculate the square footage of parcels or areas of interest
Use drawings to include or exclude specific regions during searches
Whether you’re designing a new project site, validating parcel geometry, or refining a search area, Paces drawings help you visualize your work and make data-driven decisions with ease.
Drawing Tools
Paces provides the following custom drawing tools:
Freehand Tool
Point
Line
Great for measuring distances, like the distance from a particular area of the site to the substation
Polygon
Circle
Rectangle
Diamond
Sector
Using the Custom Drawing Tools
Select either the Freehand Tool or the Drawing dropdown to select your tool
Click on the map
Drag your mouse to highlight the area and click again to finish.
For lines and polygons, double-click your last point to finalize the shape.
As you draw, an area or distance measurement will appear in the lower-left corner of the map, updating in real time.
If you need to reset before completing a drawing, press Esc or click the X in the toolbar to cancel.
After you’ve finished drawing, a pop-up will appear. Here, you can:
Name your drawing to easily find it later.
💡 Tip: A drawing must be named to search against in Search.
Adjust color and opacity (seven colors and four opacity levels are available).
Save, delete, hide, or export the drawing.
View buildable acreage within its boundaries.
All visible drawings appear in the Drawing Legend in the upper-right corner.
Use this legend to search for specific drawings, toggle their visibility, or filter them by type (points, lines, or polygons).
Customizing Drawings
After creating a drawing, you can easily change the color of the polygon, point, or line as well as change the opacity.
Additionally, you can calculate buildable area within the drawing. You are also able to Export the drawing as a KML.
Searching Against Drawings
In Step 9 of Search, you will have the option to search against named/labeled custom drawings. You can search for drawings that are a specific distance Near or Away From a certain drawing or Intersect or Do Not Intersect to the drawing
